To rename a site

1. Open Active Directory Sites and Services.
2. In the console tree, right-click the site that you want to rename, and then click Rename.

3. Type the new site name.

Notes

• To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Domain Admins group (in the forest root domain) or the Enterprise Admins group in Active Directory, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

• It is recommended that you use legal Domain Name System (DNS) names when you create new site names; otherwise, your site will only be accessible where a Microsoft DNS server is used. For more information about DNS names, see Related Topics.
